Workshop Recap: So You Want A
Songwriting Deal?
[From
NSAI's Thursday Workshop -- February 28, 2008] Most
songwriters are eager to sign their first publishing contract,
but wait. Before you put your pen on the bottom line,
make sure you know what to expect from a publisher, and what
he or she will expect from you. Do you know the
difference between a single-song contract and a staff
publishing contract? This valuable information was the
basis for James Elliott’s Guest Speaker
presentation at the Nashville Workshop Feb. 28.
James won a Dove Award for “His Eyes,” and his songs have
appeared on more than 10 million records by artists such
as Steven Curtis Chapman, Shenandoah and The Oak Ridge
Boys. James is an Assistant Professor and Coordinator of
Songwriting at the Curb College of Entertainment & Music
Business at Belmont University. For a lesson in
contracts, click the headline above to hear the
archived webcast. [Note: Before you can view this
